THE GRINNING MAN
Book by Carl Grose
Lyrics by Carl Grose, Tom Morris, Tim Phillips, and Marc Teiltler
Music by Tim Philips and Marc Teitler
Directed by Nicholas Wainwright
Based on the Novel The Man Who Laughs by Victor Hugo
A strange new act has arrived at Trafalgar Fair’s freakshow.
Who is Grinpayne and how did he get his hideous smile? Paraded as a freak, then celebrated as a star, only the love of a sightless girl can reveal his terrible secret.
The Guardian hails THE GRINNING MAN as “a wonderfully weird, macabre musical.” THE GRINNING MAN is dark and twisted, streaked with pitch-black humor, lashings of Gothic horror and swashbuckling adventure. It opened at Bristol Old Vic in 2016 to great acclaim and in 2017 transferred to the West End’s Trafalgar Studios, where it achieved cult status and rave reviews.
Please note this production contains: moments of violence, frightening themes, mild-adult language, moments of romance and innuendo, and frank talk of death, use of strobe lighting, fog/haze, and sudden loud noises.
